Grenada Electricity

Electrical standards can differ in foreign countries

Most travelers don't leave home without at least a few electrical items, such as shavers, hair dryers, and curling irons. If you're using a digital camera and camcorder, you'll need to be able to use your battery charger. To use these appliances in Grenada, you may have to purchase adapters or converters that will convert electricity.

The electricity in Grenada is 220 volts at 50 cycles, which differs considerably from the 120 volts at 60 cycles used in the United States. British three-prong plugs are primarily used in Grenada, which are not the same as the double-blade, single-grounding-pin plugs used in electrical outlets in the United States.

Appliances designed to run on American electricity standards will generally require a transformer, adapter, and converter to be used in Grenada. Some hotels provide dual voltage shaving units and can provide converters or adapters to their guests. You may wish to speak to a hotel staff member to decide whether you should bring a converter with you.

Because many travelers will require the use of a converter or adapter, airport vendors, hotel gift shops, and stores in tourist areas will usually stock them. Still, the safest bet may be to find out which type of appliance converter you will need and purchase one or two before you depart for Grenada.
