Quality Ratings:Best Hotels for...Lodging Styles:
The island state of Grenada is composed of three different islands: Grenada, Petite Martinique, and Carriacou. Most vacationers stay on the larger Grenada, but lodgings are available on Carriacou and undeveloped Petite Martinique. These two islands are popular day trips for people staying on Grenada, and many say a visit to the sister islands, located immediately north of Grenada, is not to be missed. You can travel between the islands by a convenient ferry, which makes daily trips.
Osprey Express is one of the ferry services available. Travel between the islands costs approximately $20(EC) one way and $30(EC) round trip. A cargo ferry that travels once a week to Trinidad can also make for an exciting day excursion. Bedy Oceanline also began offering ferry services between Grenada, St. Vincent, and Trinidad in October of 2009. Prices range between $120 and $140(USD), but pale in comparison to rising airline prices between islands. Passengers are permitted to bring with them two pieces of luggage, up to 60 pounds a piece. Visit Bedy Travel's Web site for updated schedules.
Many tour companies on the island offer a number of inter-island tours that visit the islands' popular tourist attractions. You can also take scheduled boat tours of Carriacou and Petite Martinique from Grenada. The ride from Grenada to Carriacou take about 90 minutes via Stout Red Ferry. Travelers will come ashore at the main jetty in Hillsborough. While visiting either of the two neighboring islands, vacationers can experience rich culture or embark on an exciting scuba-diving adventure.
Visiting Carriacou and Petite Martinique is easy and well worth the trip: Grenada's sister islands offer unspoiled tropical retreats where tourist traffic is at an all-time low.
